Installation Requirements
Review technical information related to installation of Pioneer HVAC equipment.
Are there recommended resources to find a professional near me?
Any licensed local HVAC contractor can install the products.
Can the lineset be angled upward?
Yes. Refrigerant lines can go in any direction, and the indoor and outdoor units can be higher or lower than each other.
What gauge of wire is used for connections between the ductless mini split indoor and outdoor sections?
AWG #16 is sufficient. The wire is only used to power the indoor units, which is 50 watts at most.
What hole saw size do I need for drilling walls to accommodate drain and refrigerant lines?
2.5 - 3 inches is sufficient.
What is the cost and time spent on installing systems?
The cost is variable. Expect to have 4-5 hours spent on the entire installation process for most common installations.
What torque wrench size do I need?
There are 2 flare nuts (for 9K: ¼”-⅜”, 12K: ¼” and ½”, larger: ⅜”-⅝”) that require appropriately-sized torque wrenches for proper tightening.
Where can I find wire-related information?
The 6-foot whip is for the final connection to the condenser, while the 4-lead wire is for the main run between indoor and outdoor units in a mini split system.
Who is permitted to install the A/C?
All installation must be performed by trained persons with proper tools.
Can a wall-mounted indoor unit be set onto the ceiling instead?
No. A wall-mounted indoor unit cannot be set onto the ceiling because this could cause drainage issues.
Can the lineset exit from the side of the indoor unit?
Yes. The lineset can exit from the side of the indoor unit if you don’t want it to go out through the back or wall.
Does the indoor unit require anything extra in order to be mounted to the wall?
No. The indoor unit includes the mounting plate. Nothing else is needed.
What is the ideal height for mounting indoor units?
The ideal height for mounting indoor units is preferably 7 to 8 feet from the floor and at least 4 to 6 inches below the ceiling.
