Introduction

This article explains how to open service valves. 

Before opening the service valve, complete the leakage inspection and evacuation. For information, see this article. 

Open the suction service valve first, then open the liquid service valve. 

Note: No torquing is required. 

Steps

1. Remove the valve cover. 
2. Insert the hex wrench into the valve stem completely, then back out counterclockwise until the valve stem just touches the bead. About five turns. 
3. Replace the valve stem cap to prevent leakage. Tighten the cap with your fingers and turn it for another 1/6 turn. 
4. Repeat steps 1-3 for the liquid service valve. Use caution when opening the liquid service valve.
