Indoor units that connect to outdoor units receive power from the outdoor unit via the 4-lead interconnecting communication cable connecting them together.&#xA0;</p><p>In order to comply with the National Electrical Code (NEC) in most areas, the outdoor unit must be hard-wired to a dedicated circuit breaker using fuses with proper amperage and corresponding rated wire. We also recommend using a disconnect box and surge protector when hard-wiring the outdoor unit to a dedicated circuit breaker.<img src="https://attachments.gorgias.help/Q9r0k7BYaV2vg13y/hc/9JWjXVxG8m6DvMqm/2025053013-2350cbce-564f-4806-a332-5df3f82cd3d2-mini_split_power_diagram.png" style="width: 500px;" class="fr-fic fr-dib"></p><p>All systems use 3-conductor wire. The 110/120 (115V) systems are powered as line, neutral, and ground (typically colored black, white, and green). The 208/240 (230V) systems are powered with two hot lines (black and red) and a green ground - no neutral is used. &#xA0;</p><p><strong>Note</strong>: The 115V systems require a single-pole breaker, while 230V systems require a double-pole breaker. Tandem breakers do not work for these systems.</p><p>The Central (Ducted) Split systems are always 230 VAC and require hardwiring both the outside condensing section and indoor air handler unit to a dedicated breaker.</p>
