Introduction

This article explains how to drill the piping hole in the wall for wall-mounted indoor units.

This article applies for the following systems:

Steps

1. After firmly attaching the mounting plate to the wall, temporarily mount the indoor unit onto the plate to confirm the wall hole location.

2. Use a pencil to lightly trace the bottom corner of the indoor unit, depending on which side the piping will exit.

The pre-attached piping pigtails on the indoor unit can be routed in three ways. For a side exit, use a suitable cutter to remove the knock-out panels along the groove to create a pipe exit notch.

By default, the piping is routed for a left-side exit (Option 1). This method can use either the left-side knockout for a side exit or a wall hole drilled to the left of the unit's rear.

We recommend routing the piping through the back of the system (Option 2) to easily connect the copper pipe extensions.

Routing the piping for a right-side exit (Option 3) is possible but not recommended. This configuration requires a 180-degree bend, which severely increases the risk of the lines kinking or collapsing. If this layout is required, bend the piping slowly and cautiously.

3. Remove the indoor unit from the plate and mark the hole location, ensuring ample clearance between the mark and bracket.

Recommended wall hole locations for our wall-mounted systems are listed at the bottom of this article. These measurements accommodate both left- and right-side exits with a 2-½ inch (63.5 mm) hole. Verify the hole locations by performing corner tracing.

4. Using a core drill, drill a 2-1/2 to 3-1/8 inch (63.5 to 79 mm) hole through the wall at a slight downward angle.

Be careful to avoid wires, plumbing, and other sensitive materials. The bottom of the inside hole should be 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) above the bottom of the outside hole.
