What Is the Difference Between 115V and 230V Systems?
There is no significant performance difference between the 110/120V (115V) and 208/240V (230V) versions of an appliance with the same BTU capacity. Ultimately, your choice depends on your existing electrical outlets and personal preferences.
We offer 115V versions of our 9,000 and 12,000 BTU single-zone wall mounts for customers with limited space in their electrical panels. While the 230V versions are generally more energy-efficient, the actual operating costs for both are nearly identical.
If you have the option to install either, a 230V system is generally preferable because it offers an easier upgrade path. A 230V installation also allows you to use smaller-gauge wire, which is more cost-effective.
Electrical Requirements by System Type:
- 115V Option: Available only for single-zone, wall-mounted ductless mini-splits rated at 9,000 or 12,000 BTUs.
- 230V Option: Required for all multi-zone systems and light-commercial models (such as cassettes and ducted units).
