Are Pioneer Systems Factory Pre-Charged with Refrigerant?Updated 4 hours ago

The Way the Factory Pre-charge Works for All Pioneer Systems

The condensing (outside) unit is factory pre-charged with enough refrigerant to support lineset lengths between 10 and 25 feet, per zone.

A single-zone system would therefore have enough refrigerant to support 10-25 feet of connected line, a dual-zone would have enough to support 20-50 feet of combined attached line, a triple-zone for 30-75 feet of connected line, et cetera.

If your length of connected line goes over that value, such as when you have 33 feet of line on a single-zone unit or 65 feet of line on a dual-zone unit, you would need to top off additional refrigerant during installation, typically at about 0.16-0.20 ounces per excess foot. This will compensate for the additional length and rebalance the internal pressures.

Note that we cannot modify the factory precharge since it is a sealed system, therefore this needs to be done during the installation process. It can be done by via a tank of refrigerant, or by using one of the recharging bottles we offer in the accessories section of our store.
